WEST STREET EVANGELICAL CHURCH
life through Jesus Christ.
Children
Junior church is for children aged 4 (School Reception Year) up to aged 10 (School Year 6). The group meet at 10.30 a.m. on Sundays in the church with the main service for worship and prayer before moving to the church hall for lessons and activities appropriate to each age group. Junior church runs through the year except during the main summer school holidays.
At Junior Church, we use the On the Way syllabus, a carefully planned three-year programme that takes children on an exciting journey through the Bible, from Genesis to the Acts of the Apostles.
Our aim is to help children grow in their knowledge and love of God by teaching the Bible clearly, faithfully, and in an engaging way. We teach the Bible as God’s true Word, helping children understand how its message applies to their lives today.
Lessons are organised into themed series, making it easy for children to build on what they have learned each week. Each series includes clear learning objectives, a weekly Bible lesson, and a memory verse to encourage children to hide God’s Word in their hearts.
We hope that, through these lessons, every child will develop a strong biblical foundation, deepen their faith, and enjoy learning more about Jesus in a fun, caring, and supportive environment.
“Biblical ignorance is a plague not only in the land but in the churches. This material will cure the problem by giving the children firm foundations in scriptural knowledge from their earliest years.”
Dick Lucas, Rector Emeritus of St. Helen’s Church, Bishopsgate, London
A team of leaders and helpers run the group and are all DBS checked.
West Street Loungers Group is for young people aged 10 (Year 6) upwards. It meets at 10.30 a.m. on Sundays during term time, beginning in the regular service for worship and prayer before moving to the church's upper lounge. (The second Sunday of each month the Loungers remain in the regular service.) Group time is spent in Bible study with opportunity for discussion as well as activities including quizzes/puzzles, etc. The current theme is God’s kingdom and the Bible.
The new 2026/27 academic year will see focus turn to ‘People of the Kingdom’, how they relate to God and what can be learned from them.
An exciting range of key biblical figures will be explored starting with Joseph.
Two leaders alternate leading and are DBS checked.
